Malaysia may be a relatively small country with a population of just over 30 million but our nation has successfully produced a group of talented and extraordinary people! These individuals range from entrepreneurs, activists, musicians, athletes, filmmakers, actors and also politicians – all of them excelling and thriving in their respective fields.
In conjunction with Malaysia’s 61st Independence Day, we have compiled a list of five extraordinary homegrown talents who have not only contributed to the country but also have become an inspiration to us Malaysians to work hard to achieve our goals. You might want to share this list with your kids and get them inspired as well :)
1) Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad
Tun Mahathir was the fourth and longest-serving Prime Minister in Malaysia and today, he is back as the seventh Prime Minister of Malaysia and is the oldest serving leader in the world. This man is still working for the nation at 93-years-old while some of our kids are still struggling to wake up in the morning to go to school! No wonder Tun’s enthusiasm & strength are admired by everyone around the world!
Known as the “Father of Modern Malaysia”, Malaysia has experienced a period of rapid modernization and economic growth during his tenure as the fourth Prime Minister. Do you know that Dato’ Jimmy Choo’s name was actually misspelled on his birth certificate? What was supposed to be Jimmy Chow is now known as the international brand Jimmy Choo! The brand is internationally recognized for its expensive and high-end handmade women’s shoes. His shoemaking skills can be traced back to his father who taught Choo how to make his first shoe at the age of 11. Hmm, maybe you would want to pass down some of your skills to your kids?
