Ways To Curb Bullying
There are two types of bullying, physically and emotionally. Both types of bullying can end up with serious consequences if they are not prevented. Of course, the most important thing is for us to teach our children not to be bullies but we also need to teach them on how to defend themselves from bullies!
Bullying makes people upset and it can make our children feel lonely, frightened and unhappy. They will feel unsafe and insecure. Bullying also makes our children lose confidence and may not want to go out to socialize or go to school.
How can we help our children?
First, we need to start with our mindset – you’d be surprised to learn that some parents see bullying as a part of the growing up process. Some parents think bullying will help the children to learn to stick up for themselves but they didn’t know that bullying can have long-term physical and psychological consequences! The consequences include:
- Wanting to be left alone
- Extreme shyness
- Panic attacks
Bullying is also painful and humiliating, and children who are bullied feel embarrassed, battered and shamed. If the pain is not relieved, bullying can even lead to consideration of suicide or violent behavior. It is the last thing we would want to happen!
Next, as adults, we need to pay more attention to our children’s activities. Parents should be aware of what our children are up to within the household and the type of friends they hang out with. At school, teachers must play their part to make sure that no bullying happens within the school grounds. We need to listen and check on our children every once in a while, and to be the reliable support system for our children whenever they need help.
Lastly, we can help prepare our children with self-defense techniques. This will not only help them to defend themselves but also to help other bully victims and not just be a bystander. Classes like Leverage Bullyproof Camp for Kids by LEVERAGE BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU will help to instill in your child an unshakable confidence so they can overcome bullies without violence.
Due to the non-violent nature of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, your children will learn how not to escalate the situation using punches or kicks. Instead, your children will be taught leverage-based control holds and submissions. The classes will prepare your children to defend themselves against bullies without turning them into one! This is important because we would want to stop the cycle and not continue it.
